Site Preparation

The preparation of land for SRF is similar to that used for other common agricultural crops. A glyphosate (Roundup®) treatment is recommended prior to plowing on fields of sod, pasture or hay. If prepared area is on erodible soil a late summer cover crop of an annual crop like barley should be planted. If the site is currently in small grain or a row crop, site preparation is similar to preparing for a row crop such as soybeans.

Spring tillage involves deep cultivation and harrowing along with labeled pre-emergent herbicide treatment. Standard agricultural equipment can be used for these operations.
